hi for any site whether its blog or forum or directory the most important is links and when you have quality links pointing to your blogs then that helps a lot

don't overlook that must of your traffic can come from content. (so write.. write and write more)

yes blogs are source of fresh content and that's the reason SE crawlers frequently visit them.. so need to add fresh content regularly and spiders will keep coming back to ur blog
